Nowadays, Kpop has become a new division of music widely known to every part of the world. More and more people are being trapped into the growing charm of Kpop. Its catchy tune and dynamic dance move have made Kpop globally recognized among the mainstream audiences. Kara
Kara, a South Korean pop girl group, debuted in 2007 under DSP Media. Presently, the group is composed of 4 members. New member, Youngji, joined the group following the departure of the 2 former members, Nicole Jung and Kang Jiyoung in 2014 due to the expiration of their contracts with DSP Media. After the integration of the new member, the group resumed their activities with the release of their mini-album, Day & Night, in South Korea on August 18, 2014 and going on their third Japanese tour on October 24, 2014.
F(x)
F(x), a five-member multi-national K-pop girl group, debuted in 2009 under S.M. Entertainment. The group consists of Victoria (from China), Amber and Krystal (from US), Luna and Sulli (from South Korea). Their music is well known for its fusion electro pop sounds. f(x)’s second album, Pink Tape, was the only K-pop album chosen by the American music channel Fuse to be among the “The 41 Best Albums” of 2013. In addition to music activities, each member of f(x) has engaged in other entertaining aspects such as acting and television hosting as well.
4Minute
4Minute is a five-member South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2009. 4Minute was chosen as one of the 10 winners of “Style Icon Awards” due to their trendy, stylish, and influential fashion in 2014. The group also received numerous awards, including the Bonsang Award at the 20th Seoul Music Awards, and the Kpop New Artist Award at the 2010 Billboard Japan Music Awards. Earlier this year, 4minute made their comeback with their single track Crazy, which would be the title of their sixth mini-album as well.
Secret
Secret is a South Korean K-pop girl group debuted in 2009 under the management of TS Entertainment. The group consists of four members best known for their main musical style Retro. In August last year, the group just released their fifth mini-album Secret Summer with the song I’m in Love as the lead single.
AOA
AOA (stands for Ace of Angels) is a South Korean idol girl group formed by FNC Entertainment in 2012. Last year, AOA had a string of hit singles, namely Miniskirt, Short Hair, and Like a Cat, making them rising to fame within a short time after debuting. On February 25 this year, AOA released a Japanese version of Like a Cat and it ranked #1 on Gayo! and Tower Records Shibuya on the 1st day of its release.
Apink
A Pink is a South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2011. At the very beginning, the group came with 7 members, but in April 2013, Hong Yoo-kyung decided to leave the group to focus on her studies. A Pink is well known for their innocent image, very different from other girl groups’ sexy concepts. A Pink’s music genre is generally bubblegum pop which fits best for their unique image.
Girls’ Day
Girl’s Day is a four-member South Korean girl group debuted in 2010 under Dream Tea Entertainment. Last year, the group rocked the Kpop kingdom with their hit songs Something and Darling, making them one among the top girl groups in 2014.
Sistar
Sistar is a South Korean girl group formed by Starship Entertainment in 2010. The 4 members of the group are Hyorin, Bora, Soyou and Dasom. 2014 was a vibrant year for Sistar as they made their comeback with hit summer song Touch My Body and individual members also successfully branched out into solo music, acting, and variety show activities that year.
2NE1
2NE1 is a four-member South Korean top girl group debuted in 2009 under the management of YG Entertainment. 2NE1 first appeared in “Lollipop”, a commercial campaign for LG Electronics with Big Bang, their label mates. Not until May 06, 2009 did the group debut with their single Fire. The Music video of their single received over one million views within the first 24 hours, making the song and the group become popular online. Their follow-up singles like Can’t Nobody, Go Away, Lonely, I Am the Best, and I love You were also successful domestically and internationally. In 2010, 2NE1 became the first artist to win all the three grand awards (Song of Year, Album of Year, and Artist of Year) at Mnet Asian Music Award. After performing at the Prudential Center in New Jersey in 2012, 2NE1’s performance was named as one of the Best Concert of 2012 by The New York Times. Last year, 2NE1 had a successful comeback with their second album “Crush,” with their hit track titled Come Back Home.
Girls’ Generation
Girls’ Generation, is a South Korean most popular girl group. The group was debuted in 2007 as a nine-member group under the management of S.M. Entertainment. However, on Septerm 30, 2014, Jessica Jung have been dismissed from the group due to constant conflicts between the group’s and Jessica’s personal schedule (confirmed by SM Entertainment). 2009 is considered as a significant year for Girls’ Generation as their mega hits Gee and Tell Me Your Wish were released that year. Their follow-up tracks Oh!, Run Devil Run, Hoot, The Boy, I Got A Boy, and Mr. Mr also gained worldwide popularity among the mainstream audiences. Girls’ Generation is among the best-selling artists in South Korea, with over 30 million digital singles and 4.4 million albums sold in less than five years of their debut. In 2013, their song I Got A Boy was awarded as the Video of the Year at the 1st YouTube Music Awards in New York, beating popular artists like Miley Cyrus, Psy, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. Girls’ Generation was ranked #1 on Korea Power Celebrity 40 listed by Forbes in 2011, 2012 and 2014, and ranked #2 in 2010 and 2013.
